Bairstow commits to trying to take the catch but he meets it on the half-volley and it bounces past him for four. That means Australia finish on 304-8 from their allocated overs which will be a record chase in ODIs at Melbourne if England are to do it.
There were contributions from the big hitters in the form of Aaron Finch (107), Mitchell Marsh (50) and Marcus Stoinis (60) and the partnership between Finch and Marsh looked really dangerous before they both fell in the space of two overs, which nearly derailed the innings. Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers and his extra pace really seemed to trouble Australia early on before Moeen Ali steadied the run-rate in the middle-overs. Even though this looks a big score batsmen nowadays have no fear but this will be a tough task against some quality seam bowlers on their home patch.

England made a good start to the series and take a 1-0 lead moving onto Brisbane. If the series is going to be as high scoring as today we should be in for four extremely entertaining games.
