  • If Pakistan win this third Test with England, it will be the third consecutive drawn series between the two sides; all three series having been played in England. England could secure their first men’s Test series victory versus Pakistan in five attempts (D2 L2), if they avoid defeat; their 3-1 victory at home in 2010 was their most recent success against the men in green. England have not lost a home men’s Test series since 2014 (v Sri Lanka); they have enjoyed a 12-series unbeaten run in England and Wales (W8 D4 – includes one-off game against Ireland in 2019, not including this series). Pakistan have won more men’s Tests in England (W13) than they have in any other country outside Asia; indeed, that tally is their third most in any nation overall (W58 in Pakistan and W17 in UAE). The second Test draw meant the end of a seven-game losing streak for Pakistan in Test matches not on home soil or in the United Arab Emirates. James Anderson (England) needs seven wickets to become the fourth player to take 600 scalps in men’s Tests (Muralitharan, Warne and Kumble); his best Test match figures of his career (11/71) came against Pakistan in 2010. Since his debut in November 2019, Dom Sibley has faced more balls (1,823) in Test cricket than any other player, of the 33 players to face 500+ balls in that time, only Joe Denly (83%) and Prince Masvaure (83%) have a higher dot ball rate than Sibley (82%). Joe Root requires just 19 runs to become the third man to record 1,000 Test runs for England against Pakistan (Cook & Gower); he has averaged 58 across his 20 innings versus Pakistan, the highest rate of any England batsman to log as many innings as he has against them; however Pakistan are one of only two teams Root has faced as Test captain (3+ inns) without recording a century (also Australia). Azhar Ali needs 43 runs to become the fifth player to reach 6,000 in men’s Tests for Pakistan; however, only Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath (10) has dismissed him more times in the format than England pair James Anderson (8) and Stuart Broad (6). Babar Azam meanwhile needs 29 runs for 2,000 career Test runs. Out of the players available for selection for either team, only Joe Root, Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq have scored more Test runs than Stuart Broad (3320).
