Daunting total? Just like there are two sides to a coin, there are two ways to look at this score. Given that the teams batting first at this venue have enjoyed success while defending totals in excess of 150 in T20s, Lahore would be extremely happy. But the pitch seemed to change slightly across the innings. While the ball was new, it was coming onto the bat nicely, but then, started to stop a little bit. However, towards the end, it looked like the ball was coming onto the bat much better than over the first 15 overs, so the Scorchers would hope that they will get a decent chance to chase this down. It is slow and low - Perth Scorchers XI's BRODY COUCH takes some time out to have a chat with the on-air commentators. On adapting to these conditions, Couch notes that the surface is playing a bit slow and low, and explains that his plan was to take the pace off the ball and keep it away from the swing of the bat. He adds that the tour has brought new people into his circle and a fresh set of facilities to learn from. When asked about what he makes of the target, he calls it a fairly even one, but it seems more of an educated guess than anything else. On the approach the batting group needs to take, Couch's message is simple - stay out there as long as possible and avoid forcing the issue.

Contributing in bits - That was the case for the Lahore Qalandars. Just two batters batted supremely well - Shayan Jahangir at the top and Farhan Yousaf towards the end. But that did the job for them. The duo contributed 115 of the team's total, taking just 68 balls, but they came at difficult phases. Jahangir counterattacked when the early wicket fell and held firm during the middle phase's collapse, while Farhan Yousaf literally blasted the Scorchers off the park when they were aiming to end well.

Not utilizing the conditions - That would be the honest assessment from Ashton Turner. He won the toss, chose to bowl, expecting his bowlers to make use of the early morning moisture, but barring the early wicket of Shamyl Hussain, his bowlers wasted the new ball. They did not quite get hit for too many runs, but struggled to pick up wickets. It was the middle phase where Perth choked the Qalandars, conceding just 62 runs and picking up 3 wickets in those 9 overs. But towards the end, they simply lost control and what should have been 155 at best, has turned out to be 15 runs extra roughly. Jhye Richardson did pick up 3 wickets but those came at the death, with Brody Couch and Sufyan Moqim being the pick of the bowlers. Strangely, Ashton Agar bowled just 2 overs and the remaining 2 had to be bowled by D'Arcy Short, which turned out to be really expensive for the Scorchers.

Massive finish - 65/3 in the final 5 overs. What a powerful finish for Lahore Qalandars, who will be extremely happy with this score on a pitch where anything in excess of 150 is considered to be matchwinning. The Scorchers had no control at the death and were simply, scorched.

The victorious skipper of Lahore Qalandars - Michael Bracewell says it is a fantastic start to the tournament. Mentions that it is always nice to begin with a win, but he is particularly pleased with the way his side went about it. PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Farhan Yousaf wins the award for his fiery knock of 50 off 23 balls. He says he first assessed the conditions after walking out to bat and tried to gauge what would be a good total on the surface. He credits the director of cricket and the head coach for giving him plenty of confidence, adding that the message from the team management was to keep things simple. Shares that they were targeting a score in the region of 160-170. Farhan also praises his teammates, saying everyone played well and gave their 100 percent.

Bracewell calls the shots - Lahore Qalandars will be delighted with their bowling effort. Mohammad Imran set the tone with an early wicket, although they endured a brief period of pressure before Ali Shabbir removed Andre Fletcher. As the game progressed, the surface began to slow down, and the spinners came more into play. Michael Bracewell rotated his bowlers superbly and finished with an excellent 1/20. Usama Mir chipped in with a couple of crucial wickets through the middle overs, before Imran returned to dismiss Usman Khan. From there, it was smooth sailing for the Qalandars.

Late surge lifts Lahore - Earlier in the game, Lahore Qalandars posted a competitive total, powered by a fantastic 65 off 45 from Shayan Jahangir and some late fireworks from Farhan Yousuf, who smashed a 23-ball fifty to provide the final push. Jhye Richardson was the pick of the Perth Scorchers' bowlers with a three-wicket haul, while Brody Couch claimed two, with Ashton Agar and D'Arcy Short chipping in with one each.

Early momentum fades away - In the chase, D'Arcy Short could not make much of an impact, but Andre Fletcher came out firing, showcasing his range and power to give Perth a brisk start with a fiery 35. However, his dismissal just before the end of the Powerplay hurt their momentum. The runs then began to dry up, and while Usman Khan kept Perth in touch with the required rate, Joel Curtis struggled to get going and consumed too many deliveries. With little support at the other end and the asking rate climbing rapidly, Usman eventually fell after a fighting 41, leaving the rest of the batting unit with far too much to do as they ultimately fell short.

A complete performance from the Qalandars - Lahore Qalandars begin their GSL 2026 campaign in style, completely outplaying Perth Scorchers across all departments. The conditions bore similarities to those in the subcontinent, and the Asian side made excellent use of them. Perth, meanwhile, will need to adapt much better to the conditions if they are to enjoy a successful run in the tournament.
