Once again New Zealand have posted a really impressive first innings total at Mount Maunganui to put the pressure on Sri Lanka in this Second ODI. The pitch seemed ever so slightly slower than two days ago meaning the ball didn't come onto the bat quite as well. Nonetheless, Colin Munro (87) and Ross Taylor (90) were able to put on a fluent 112 before Jimmy Neesham smashed a violent 64 to help the Kiwis post 319/7. The tourists will need to be at their best with the bat to keep the series alive.

An unbelievable day of entertainment at Bay Oval has ended in a Black Caps victory as Sri Lanka fell short in an epic runchase by just 21 runs. The tourists looked dead and buried when they slumped to 128/7 in pursuit of 320, but then Thisara Perera unleashed in devastating fashion. He struck 13 colossal sixes, a Sri Lankan record, on his way to an insane 140 from just 74 balls. It was a maiden ODI century for the left-hander, however he'll be left feeling disappointed at the match result. The Kiwis were uncharacteristically sloppy in the field, dropping at least six or seven catches to let the visitors off the hook. Fortunately for them, their batsmen were in fine form earlier in the day to amass a total that proved just enough. Colin Munro, Ross Taylor and Jimmy Neesham all made aggressive half centuries, yet Thisara Perera's innings is the one that will live long in the memory. New Zealand take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, meaning it is just pride to play for in Nelson on Tueday.

Relief for New Zealand, Neesham gets the breakthrough with a snorter. Sandakan got in a tangle looking to avoid the sharp bouncer and it ends up ballooning off his glove. Taylor tumbles forward to accept the opportunity, finally they hold a catch. It's all down to the last pair now, Thisara will have to shepherd the strike because Pradeep isn't known for his batting.
