That's the end of Foakes and England. He's looking to add another boundary to the score but the bat twists in the hands and Dhananjaya takes a very smart catch over his shoulder. England are all out for 342 while only lasting six overs this morning. The main task was getting Foakes to his hundred and he got there in style. For Sri Lanka they have got the job done quickly with Dilruwan Perera taking 5-75 and all the other bowlers chipping in. All down to the batsmen now and there will be pressure for them to score 350 plus as they will not want to be behind the game when this wicket starts to break up and spin.

Rather ugly shot from Lakmal and he loses all of his shape with the ball going the opposite way to where he was aiming.
Sri Lanka are all out for 203 and they have conceded a lead of 139 which could be very important in the coming days. Only Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal applied themselves properly and most of the damage was done before they came in. At 40-4 it was uphill battle to get somewhere near the England total and unfortunately it ended up being too much. The spinners for England were superb, Moeen Ali picked up figures of 4-66 while Leach and Rashid both chipped in with a couple each.
This could be a tricky little session coming up for the opening pair and Sri Lanka will come out firing with the ball.

Root calls in his troops and now it's down to the task of bowling out Sri Lanka. It has been hard in the field for the home side in the hot conditions and they have tried everything possible but the pitch hasn't spun as much as people thought. That will give their batsman some hope though for the next couple of days, the first big problem is seeing out these last few overs.
A nice moment for Herath as all the Sri Lankan players wait for him and applaud him off the field for one last time. He will never have to bowl again but he might be needed with the bat.

What a way to finish your Test match career. Rangana Herath scurries through for the second but he's no young pup now and Stokes has a bullet throw right over the top of the stumps. Out by the smallest of margins with the bat on the line and England win by a huge margin of 211 runs.
From start to finish the England team have been brilliant with bat and ball. Galle is usually a fortress for Sri Lanka but the heavy rain and lack of sun made the pitch less favourable to their attack and the spinners found it very difficult to break through. Along with that their batsmen did not perform as they would have hoped and giving up such a big lead after the first innings was always going to be trouble. Credit has to go to the two centurions, Ben Foakes and Keaton Jennings. In both innings England needed someone to step up and that is exactly what they both did.
We now head to Pallekele for the second Test and Sri Lanka will need to make at least one change with Herath now retiring and the fitness of their captain Dinesh Chandimal also a worry. Join us on the 14th to see who comes out on top in the next game in the series.
