The captain of Welsh Fire - Phil Salt is now up for a quick chat with the broadcasters. Salt says he is pleased to come away with the win but knows there is still plenty of cricket left to be played. He feels this is the best Welsh Fire side assembled to play at home. Salt stresses the importance of being clear with your plans in such conditions. Adds that the explosive players should back their natural game to put the bowlers off their lengths, while those capable of batting longer should play to their strengths. Phil heaps praise on Chris Woakes and Sam Cook, joking that he certainly would not have wanted to face them on that surface. PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Matthew Short receives the award for his match-winning knock of 60 not out from 41 balls and he also picked up a couple of wickets. Short says it is always tough to bat early in Cardiff, with the surface offering plenty for the quicks. He feels chasing was an advantage as the dew helped the ball skid on a little more. Short believes red-ball lengths were the most effective on this surface, and praises his side's seamers for exploiting the conditions perfectly. Mentions that he knew he had to grind through the early phase, play good shots, and wait for the shine to wear off.

The Hulk toned down the rage - Cook and Woakes set the tone early for the Fire, extracting every bit of swing, seam and bounce the new ball had to offer as the Brave top order groped around for the first 20 balls without any real answers. The surface itself did plenty too, nipping and gripping with bounce that was never entirely consistent. Amid all that, Stoinis stood out as the lone batter who worked out a method, choosing to sit back in his crease and play off the surface rather than fight it, and the approach paid off handsomely as he cashed in with some eye-catching hitting. Nobody else at the other end could get comfortable, and that allowed the hosts to keep squeezing the innings from one side. Stoinis went on to bring up a well-made fifty before he fell against the run of play in the closing stages, with Miller lending some late fireworks courtesy of a couple of sixes.

Short stood tall - With no real option but to frontload their bowling in search of quick wickets, the Brave found some success through Archer and Jordan, who struck in quick succession through that middle stretch. The wicket of Root in particular took the sting out of the Fire innings, with the hosts slipping from 60/1 to 70/4 in the space of a few sets. Short too lost the fluency he'd found early on. But a few loose deliveries from the Brave gave him the impetus he needed, and he cashed in to bring up a well-made fifty. He found an able ally in Tom Kohler-Cadmore and the two put on a responsible unbeaten stand to coast their side home safely.

Root cause of comfort - Unlike the Fire bowlers who operated on a string, the Brave couldn't quite match that discipline despite getting a fair bit out of the new ball themselves. They did strike early to remove Salt, but couldn't follow it up with the inroads needed to keep the hosts in check. Short made merry with anything loose that came his way. Whereas Root, in typical fashion, took his time to get his eye in and played the perfect foil at the other end during that important 56-run stand.

Flickered but fired eventually - Quite truly, and it did get a touch nervy in the closing stages, but the home side found a way through in the end, handing the crowd a double Monday treat. The women got home in a close one earlier, and now the men have followed suit. It would have taken either an extraordinary bowling effort or a spectacular batting collapse from the Fire for the Brave to have had a real sniff in this game, and in the end neither quite materialised. The Fire weren't at their fluent best in the chase, and the Brave weren't as clinical as they'd have hoped either, so the contest played out somewhere in that middle ground before Welsh Fire eventually got over the line.

The batters hustle back for the second, and that will do nicely for the home side. Welsh Fire win by 6 wickets. Angled in at the pads, Kohler-Cadmore misses out on the tickle. The ball clips the pads and goes behind. Jamie Smith dives to his left and gets a hand on it. It goes behind, and by the time the short third fielder can hunt it down, Kohler-Cadmore comes charging back for the second.

Low full toss, outside off. Kohler-Cadmore hangs deep in the crease but manages to reach out as he slams it over the leaping Chris Jordan at cover. The ball does not have enough legs to reach the fence, and it is cut off by Jofra Archer, who covers good ground to his left. Two runs taken and the Fire now need 2 runs from 6 balls.

Pace off and into the wicket, on off. Kohler-Cadmore arches back and flaps at it but misses.

Very full, on off. Short toe-ends the drive wide of cover, where Chris Jordan dives to his left and cuts it off. He is quick to get back up on his feet and scores a direct hit at the batting end but Kohler-Cadmore is safely home.

FOUR! Smart batting. Stoinis goes searching for the yorker but it comes out as a dipping low full toss, on the off stump. Short moves across to the off side and hangs very low. Takes the ball on the full and scoops it fine of the man at deep fine leg, who is yet again placed very square. 5 needed off 9 balls.

The writing is pretty much on the wall now. Welsh Fire need just 9 runs from 10 balls. Marcus Stoinis returns for his final set of five.

That should have been put away. Short and wide, near the tramline on off. Kohler-Cadmore stands tall and spanks it away but can't get it past extra cover. A couple of dots to end the set.

Kohler-Cadmore gives himself room and Jordan responds by pushing it wider on off, on a length. Tom can't reach it.

FOUR! A sharp chance and that has beaten Jamie Smith for pace. Serves it on a short of a length, on off and middle. Kohler-Cadmore walks across to the off side to use the pace and gets it off the face of the blade. It flies quickly towards the keeper. Smith gets both gloves together to his left but the ball is past him by then and it races away.

The length is pulled back now, on off. Kohler-Cadmore flashes but fails to connect.

FOUR! Up and over! The 100 is up for Welsh Fire, and the equation is under a run-a-ball now. Jordan goes full, on middle. Kohler-Cadmore skips down the track and gets his hands through the line of the ball to pump it over mid off for a four. 13 needed off 14.

Archer bashes the hard length, on middle. Short swings across for the pull but misses. Gets hit on the body but Kohler-Cadmore calls him through for a leg bye as the ball drops on the off side and he scampers through. Archer is done for the night, finishing with figures of 2/19 from his 20 balls.

Fuller and outside off. Short moves across and carves it to the left of deep point for a brace.

SIX! Innovative and mighty effective. That brings up a FIFTY for Matthew Short. The Aussie has looked the part tonight and has led the way for the home side. He will be keen to see the chase through himself. Skidding through, on a back of a length, outside off. Short hops across to the off side quickly, knowing that Luke Wood is a lot square at deep fine leg. He gets inside the line and uses the pace by playing the scoop. On top of off, on a back of a length. Kohler-Cadmore makes room and runs it down to deep third for one.

Not in control but safe. On a hard length, on middle. Short tries the pull but the ball gets big on him and he is rushed. It balloons off the splice of the blade but lands in front of Adil Rashid at mid-wicket. The batters pick up a quick single.

Jofra Archer is back and will bowl out. 2/9 in 15 balls so far. And looks like the last two balls of the previous set precipitated the call to bring him back on.

FOUR! Kohler-Cadmore cashes in on the Free Hit. That spoils the set for Luke Wood but he has only himself to blame. Pitched up, right in the slot, on off. Tom waits back and smacks it over wide mid off for a boundary. 8 runs off the set. 28 required off 20 balls.

Oh, dear. Wood gets it all wrong. It does land beyond the cut strip on the off side but the ball has gone past the stumps by then. Kohler-Cadmore was shaping for the scoop but then tried to adjust and glide it behind point.
