Chandimal and Karunaratne scored fighting half centuries for Sri Lanka but there was nothing of real substance in a tame batting display, leaving them with a below par total.

Sweetly punched through cover, that's a century for Rohit Sharma. What a comeback to the Test side, he hasn't even played a first class game for more than a year. He's positively cruised to three figures and with that Kohli calls in the troops.

That was brutal for Sri Lanka, two straight days in the heat of the field being put to the sword by India's batsmen. Vijay, Pujara, Kohli and Sharma were the fab four for the hosts, all notching contrasting centuries to give themselves a more than handy lead of 405 runs. You struggle to see how Sri Lanka will get close to that figure let alone make India bat again. The first target will be to make it through tonight unscathed but that is much easier said than done.

OUT! Bowled. Ravichandran Ashwin to Lahiru Gamage. Carrom length ball, off stump on the front foot defending, missed. There it is, Ashwin's 300th Test wicket finishes things in style. Gamage has no clue which way the ball is turning, the carrom delivery beats the outside edge to clip off stump. That equals India's biggest victory in Tests and puts them 1-0 up in the series.

A second abject batting performance in the match from Sri Lanka as they are dismantled in less than 50 overs by a rampant India. That long stint in the field must have taken it's toll on the minds of the visiting batsmen, there were some pretty wretched shots from normally solid players. Only skipper Dinesh Chandimal offered any resistance, his aggressive 61 a beacon of hope for the tourists. The hosts were by far the better team right from the start of the match, with key contributions throughout their eleven. They will be full of confidence heading into the Third Test starting on Saturday 2nd.
